"Don't Touch Me" -- Pattern Test & Giveaway

Back in May, Amanda over at Fabric Engineer asked for volunteers to test a new pattern she created.  As a thank you, she has given me 1 copy of the pattern to give away to one of you!  More on that in a minute....

Amanda's original quilt (you can see it here) uses bold solids (red, blue, yellow, green), but I decided to try a different color scheme.  I'm using only stash fabric in 2012 so it was a bit of a challenge to choose the fabrics I'd use, but I think these colors would be sweet for a little girl.

The pattern for the top is called "Don't Touch Me," because none of those little triangles touch another triangle of the same color.

The pattern for the back is called "Hug and Make Up," since the triangles make nice and come back together again.

Amanda used white solid on her back (where I have the floral print).  The triangles really stand out more against the white, but at 35" x 35", I thought this quilt would be great for a child's "playing on the floor" quilt.  White quilt backs would not stay white for long on my floors, so I opted to use the flowers instead.

The obligatory "rolled up quilt" photo.  Please be kind and ignore that my HST's need some work and don't always match up as they should.  That was definitely user error, not the fault of the pattern!

I quilted around each large triangle, then shadow quilted 1.5" inside each one as well.

I quilted around each medium triangle, but not the little ones.

If you'd like a chance to win a *FREE* copy of Amanda's pattern -- which includes the instructions for both "Don't Touch Me" and "Hug and Make Up" -- just leave me a comment about what colors (or prints) you'd use in this quilt.  I'll number each comment as they come in and use Random.org to select a winner from all comments received by midnight (Eastern time) on Thursday, July 5.  I'll contact the winner and announce his/her name here on Friday, July 6.

  1. Hello Kat,

Visiting from Sew Many Ways. A clever pattern name!!! I would raid my stash so it could be made in any colour, trying to use up what I have in my sewing room.

    Happy days.

  10. I'd need to look through my stash - maybe a "boy" version with some brown, orange, green, and blue prints? But the name makes me thing of 1) how I hate having food touch on my plate - especially pancake syrup with eggs, and 2) my kid sister in the back of the car on a long ride to grandma's house.

  11. Your quilt is darling, and I love your color choices! I'm in an orange mood these days, so I'd probably use some of the oranges I've stashed away. But it would also be cute in the black and white prints I'm hoarding, against a solid colored background - maybe teal or green or red! Or maybe my FMF Legacy prints - oh the possibilities are endless! Thanks for the chance to win!

  12. I love the simplicity of this pattern. I'm looking for baby boy quilt ideas, I think I'd try pastel boy solids, blue, cream, tan, pale green.... Though yours is awfully sweet looking!

  13. This looks amazing in the softer shades you used. I like all of the quilts shown on Fabric Engineers post but yours is very nice. I think I would use several greens and a nice crisp white! Thanks for the chance.

  14. I would love it in greens - middle green background and then 2 lighter and 2 darker shades, no idea if I ever find matching greens .. but well dreams are dreams ...

  15. I would try to not use white or cream, try as I might. I really like the backing. I think I would choose colors for the backing first, and then bring them to the front...have to check the stash!

  16. I've been saving some pink and green fabrics that would be perfect for this quilt. I went over to visit Amanda's blog and although I love using primary colors in quilts, I think I would go for softer hues.

  19. That is a real cute pattern. As for fabric to use in it,my first thought is lots of sweet little prints. But then I started thinking about using only white against another solid color to keep it simple. Deciding is half the fun. :0) Thank you for sharing it with us. :0)
